Welcome back to our blog! We want to start off by letting you know how grateful we are to have you here on this journey with us and if you’re new here: hi! We’re about 6 months into our Root’s adventure and it seems like a great time to let you in on the reality of what being small business owners has been like.

FIRST FEW MONTHS
Our first few months of business were a complete whirlwind. There was no blueprint on how to do this. We were constantly reading articles, watching YouTube videos and reflecting on what we learned in our business classes. Our launch was one of the most exciting things we’ve ever accomplished. Going forward, the early period mostly consisted of pushing through the holiday season and doing our best to not fall behind. This was also a huge learning period. I think we’d both agree that figuring out the logistics of shipping was the toughest part. As much as we wanted to offer free shipping, two day shipping, etc; we quickly realized that with the scale of our business, at this moment, it’s just not possible. Truthfully, accepting the reality of things like this has been difficult. We went into this business with certain expectations and have been humbled! Alas, we adapt. Being flexible has been pertinent throughout our journey. While our goals are still there, we’ve realized that we need to be patient and continue to work hard.
MORE RECENTLY
In this part of our journey, we’ve been fine tuning every aspect of our business. Taking information we’ve learned and inspirations from new connections, we’re constantly updating our site, brand, social media presence, etc;. A quality that has turned into an everyday practice has been self-discipline. Our Google Calendar has been our best friend. We practice holding each other accountable each and every day.
We have experienced so many emotions navigating our business, overcoming obstacles and celebrating milestones. Some days are certainly easier than others. When projects don’t turn out as expected or the vision we have for items isn’t feasible, it’s easy to get discouraged. Each follow on Instagram, subscription to our site, and order placed was and still is, so impactful. The more we’ve been putting into Root’s and each collection, we’re finding our way. As cliche as it may sound, we really are learning, growing, and discovering what’s important to us. I certainly couldn’t do this without my partner! Becca and I have learned how to pick each other up in ways we hadn’t needed to before.
Our latest project is our Vibrant Collection, releasing March 1st! The newest collection is always more exciting than the last because, with each one, we’re doing better! We’re producing new pieces at a higher quality and with even more love than the last. I’m proud of the time we’ve allowed ourselves to experiment and learn in order to produce at the highest quality for our customers. This part of our journey has shown us just how creative we can be when we give ourselves the time and tools necessary.
LOOKING FORWARD
In the spirit of planning and staying ahead of schedule, I see this next chapter as incredibly strong. Strong in the sense of pieces we create, content we put out, and overall success. We both know that navigating our business will never be without its hurdles, but I am sure that the more we push through, the better we’ll become at overcoming them. All in all, we’re both incredibly grateful to have a space to create what we want and have it so well received by our Root’s community.
Being first-time small business owners is one of the greatest achievements for the both of us and we are incredibly excited to keep growing. We couldn’t do it without you!
