Pizza Pumpkins

ree

Ingredients

3 1/3 Cups All Purpose Flour

1 Tsp Salt

2 Tsp Yeast

1 1/4 Cups Warm Water

1 Tbsp. Olive Oil

1 Can Tomato Sauce

2 Cloves Garlic

1/2 Onion

1 Bell Pepper

1/2 Cup Shredded Mozzarella

Pepper

Garlic Powder

Onion Powder

Crushed Red Pepper Flakes

Oregano

1/4 Cup Butter

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt.

  2. In another small bowl or cup, pour the yeast into the warm water and stir until combined.

  3. Pour water and yeast mixture into the large bowl to combine with dry ingredients.

  4. Add the olive oil and stir until a raggy dough forms.

  5. Pour the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8 minutes or use a stand mixer and the dough hook attachment on medium-low speed for the same amount of time.

  6. Once your done kneading, divide the dough into 12 equal pieces.

  7. With floured hands, shape each piece into a small ball by folding the dough under itself.

  8. Set each dough ball on a floured surface with a damp tea towel resting on top of them and let them rise at room temperature for 45min- 1hr.

  9. While waiting for the dough to rise, pre-heat the oven to 500F and prepare the filling.

  10. Dice the onion and bell pepper into small pieces and mince the garlic.

  11. First sauté the onions and bell peppers in some olive oil. Once they start to soften add the garlic. Cook on medium-low until translucent.

  12. In a small bowl combine the cold tomato sauce with the sautéed vegetables and cheese. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, crushed red pepper, and oregano.

  13. Set aside filling until dough is ready to use.

  14. Once the dough has risen, take the palm of your hand to press each ball down.

  15. With a rolling pin, roll out each ball into a 1/4in. thick circle and fill with a heaping tablespoon of sauce/cheese filling.

  16. Pinch all sides of the dough to one point in the middle until filling is completely enclosed and the dough is sealed. Trim any excess dough from the top, if necessary. Repeat this process for all pieces of dough and set aside.

  17. With the baking twine, cut three equal pieces, long enough to wrap around one dough ball. Lay each piece across each other creating a center point where they all meet.

  18. Place one dough ball in the center of the twine.

  19. Bring both sides of one piece of twine to meet at the top of the ball and tie a knot. Repeat this step with the remaining two pieces of twine and then with all remaining dough balls and place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.

  20. Melt the butter and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Brush Butter mixture over the Pizza Pumpkins and bake in the over for about 10 - 12 minutes or until golden-brown.

Strawberry Ghosts
